How LBZ injectors fail

LBZ injectors are more durable than LB7 units, but they are still precision parts living in a hot, high-pressure environment, and they wear. The common failure modes:

  • Worn nozzles and internal leakage that upset the injector's fuel delivery.
  • Over-fueling from a stuck or worn injector, which washes fuel past the rings and raises crankcase oil level.

The service that protects the LBZ fuel system

Injectors do not fail in a vacuum. The fastest way to shorten their life is dirty fuel and neglected filtration.

Change the fuel filter on schedule. The LBZ's factory filter is the cheapest insurance you can buy for a fuel system that is expensive to repair. Fresh filtration keeps abrasives away from the injector nozzles and the CP3. Do not stretch this interval.

Keep water out of the fuel. Drain the water separator and pay attention to the water-in-fuel warning. Water is death to high-pressure common-rail components.
