Because the LMM has no factory lift pump, inspect the filter head, drain, and suction lines for an air leak, and confirm the filter is fresh and free of water. Air intrusion is one of the most common reasons an LMM that ran fine yesterday will not start today, especially after fuel-system work.

If rail pressure builds but the engine still will not fire, verify the crank and cam signals and scan for codes, since the ECM needs them to command injection. Injector return testing identifies units leaking back enough to keep the rail from building. Because the LMM shares the dependable CP3, most no-starts come down to a discrete supply, air, or sensor issue, so let the rail-pressure data lead and avoid replacing healthy parts. No. The LMM uses the reliable Bosch CP3 high-pressure pump, not the later CP4.2. That is good news for no-start diagnosis, because the CP3 does not carry the catastrophic debris-failure risk of the CP4, so the causes are usually the more routine supply, air, and pressure issues.

Why does air get into the LMM fuel system?

Because there is no factory lift pump, the CP3 pulls fuel under vacuum. A loose filter head, a failing drain valve, or a hardened suction line lets air in rather than leaking fuel, and that air keeps the pump from building the pressure needed to fire the engine.
